Psychic Predictions
Can the future be predicted via psychic and/or Tarot readings? In my experience, no. I have had hundreds of readings by well over one hundred readers and their ability to predict future events - mostly in the area of career and romance, have been resounding failures. I have had far far more misses than hits.
I began my extensive foray in to psychic readings because of a broken heart. I desperately needed answers as to why the relationship had ended so unexpectedly and whether or not there would be future contact, as friends or more. Over two years, I visited psychic hotlines, as well as more established, traditional psychic and Tarot readers. The hotlines leaned decidedly toward painting fairy tale endings - apologies and confessions initiated by my ex, followed by us building a life together. Two + years later, we have had almost no contact and the little that has come about, was always initiated by me with polite but superficial responses from my ex. (And two flat out rejections of rebuilding any kind of relationship).
To be honest, not a single traditional reader predicted a reconnection of any substance. (I define traditional readers as those you make an appointment to read with in advance; the reading is done face to face or via zoom, at a price that typically runs 100-200 per hour (vs. $250 to over $1000 per hour on the hotlines!) and lasts an hour. Most of these traditional readers told me I was better off without my ex. A number of the hotline readers were equally discouraging. However, some of the most highly rated readers on one site strung me along for two years promising my ex would return and we would spend our lives together. I kept coming back to them, spending thousands of dollars in the process, because, in that vulnerable state, I very much wanted that outcome to be true. It didn’t happen. What “threw me” was that the readers seemed remarkably accurate when it came to summarizing our past dynamics and interactions, and that gave me hope that the predictions of reconciliation would come to pass; they did not.
Career predictions I received of salary increases are harder to judge. During the winter and spring of 2022, at the peak of my confusion and despair, I was visiting 10 to 15 psychics per month, as I grieved the loss of someone I cared for dearly. I switched jobs at the end of that period of time, taking a $25,000 pay CUT. During this time many psychics predicted a job change with a salary INCREASE. That certainly did not happen. However, during my first year in my new position, the teachers in my district did go on strike, and I did receive a healthy check in the summer, that included a backdated pay raise, a $5000 bonus and a $14,000 bump in salary for the upcoming school year. Still, that amount did not equal what I would have been making if I had remained at my former school. Objectively speaking, I have to judge the salary increase predictions as false. Again, these predictions came from the hotline readers, not the traditional, hour long, face to face readings. One must be quite cautious when using psychic hotlines; I will delve into that subject in a separate post.
As an ethical reader, my goal is to help my clients with the challenges in their lives, not to confuse them or add to their misery. I shy away from predictions knowing how complicated life is, and also how damaging it can be to the querent if the prediction does not come to pass. I also feel great damage may be done, psychologically, if the prediction is a “negative” one. There may be some value in preparing the querent, but it is extremely important the reader choose their words carefully, presents the more negative outcome as a learning experience, and emphasize the impossibility of nailing down the future.
Most Tarot spreads do include at least a loose “future” or “outcome” card of some type. I am grappling with this as I write. I present these outcomes as where the momentum is at that time (if we trust the cards), but not as concrete. I also like to check back with my clients to see how the outcomes played out in reality. This is part of my own research into the validity and usefulness of psychic readings.
For myself, and for my clients, I say - “take what resonates with you and leave the rest”. A prediction should never overshadow your own intuition, but if it adds to your life and provides some type of clarity for you, great. Just don’t obsess or hang your hopes on it (as I did). If the reading causes you anxiety, put it in the back of your mind and live your life. With time, its meaning may (or may not), become apparent.
Remember that a psychic or Tarot reading is for your highest good, an act of loving kindness is what Geoffrey, one of my teachers tells, his students. If that’s not your experience, then perhaps it’s time to put them aside.
